The Point Roberts
Fire Department was established in 1953 to provide Point
Roberts with reliable local fire suppression.
Donations since then have funded the purchase of the
necessary vehicles, equipment, and training to provide Point
Roberts with a modern firefighting service.
In 1957 the Point
Roberts Fire Department became known as Whatcom County Fire
District #5 and opened the Julius Fire Station as the first
official Fire Station in Point Roberts. In 1972
several individuals active in the Department formed the
Point Roberts Volunteer Fire Department, Inc, to establish
and operate the firefighters bingo. Firefighters Bingo
has since then generated thousands of dollars for the Point
Roberts Fire Department, paying for a new engine in 1979 and
purchasing the property at 2030 Benson Road, currently the
Mather Fire Station and Thompson Hall. |
The Point Roberts
Volunteer Fire Department operates bingo Tuesday, Thursday,
and Friday. Doors open at 5PM and games start at
6:25PM. The proceeds continue to be put to good use
purchasing equipment and training.
Beginning in 1978
Whatcom County Fire District #5 began offering emergency
medical services. Since then, Whatcom County Fire
District #5 obtained two ambulances and offers Emergency
Medical Services (EMS) at the Intermediate Life Support
(ILS) level. We are supported by
Airlift Northwest
based in Bellingham, who has on standby 24/7 a team
consisting of two registered nurses, with extensive critical
care trauma experience. We are also supported by
Whatcom Medic One, a critical care paramedic ambulance
service on standby 24/7. |
